If the Islanders/BST left tomorrow, a new AHL team would replace them. It’s in their lease. As far as losing money, yeah he does lose money. but not as much as you think. As for the arena, he has options at least two that I can recall. Both of which would remain on LI. He’s choosing to remain in the lease and playing the role of a martyr. I tend to not listen or believe anything Howard says after my incident with him last season.

Charles’ net worth is 890mil and that’s not counting his 300mil in stock that he awarded himself and his 20 million he gets from cablevision each year. The man can run the team off his interest.

I don’t buy any of it. I don’t believe they went after Kovi and I don’t believe snow had the green light to spend money. They used the buyouts to reach the cap floor and raised ticket prices and parking prices and are icing a team that couldn’t even beat some AHL teams.

I’m saying Wang saved Islanders hockey on Long Island.

They are rebuilding and have no sign of a new arena on the horizon. Right now Wang is using that to save money, I’m not sure it’s fair to throw him under the bus for that. He lost a pile, for a number of years, trying to buy a winning team and attempting to get a new arena. The longterm reality is the Islanders on Long Island need a financially viable situation; winning is a part of that, but in today’s world, so are the economics of the building. If that can’t be worked out, they aren’t on Long Island longterm, no matter who owns them.

BST fans must understand that the Sound Tigers exist to benefit the Islanders. Ask Howard Saffan.

No one noticed when the Lighthouse failed, He started chopping up the organization. Wang sells in 1-2 years depending on his lawsuit.

So Doug, what your saying, is the Isles and BST fan must deal with Wang not spending money on the team for talented players because he wants a new arena? I can understand that yes the money made would help, but in the interim you have a NHL team that is 30th in the league and not helping the draft picks grow.. but hey, at least Wang is committed….

  5. Doug says:

First, I’ll say I agree that Bailey should have been left in BPT, in fact, he should have been there from the start. For a young talent like him it’s about development for the pro game, not a few weeks to build “confidence” as Snow wants us (or perhaps himself) to believe. There is also limited NHL talent for him to play with on the Isles, and they need to keep him at one position. I would also say that having a stable, winning team in BPT would be very beneficial to the Isles in development of their young players.

Second, ‘hank’ if you don’t love Wang for saving the Isles you are not following something. Wang is, and has been committed to the Isles on Long Island since he bought the team. He tried the big spending way (Peca, Yashin), it didn’t work. I’m not going to blame him for saving a few bucks while in this build-through-the-draft mode; I bet when they decide they are ready to step forward, the money will be there for players. He does need a new building and the income sources it brings (look at the money he has spent working on that). As for Snow, from a transaction perspective, he has been steady and done pretty well* (*quality of draft picks to be determined). However, this thing he has with his ego, or trying to manipulate how he is perceived, is just wrong and reflects very badly on the team. That needs to be addressed. This is a bit of a step back year (the Streit and Okposo injuries are major), but I do hope they stick with this rebuild and are drafting well.

    Here’s to you, Mr. Wang.
