According to The Hockey News, Sim was highly regarded by the Islander brass and granted his request to be released to play overseas. I doubt he could have been reassigned or loaned to play in Europe as the NJ Devils did with Petr Vrana. I did not like him when he first came, but I appreciated the effort he gave when he was demoted two seasons ago and played his way back on the team last year. Again, good luck to him.
Right on the recalled-to-release. Can’t tell you what happened at the end; put in a call but didn’t hear back yet. If you can get through the Newsday paywall, Katie Strang talked to him.
What was up with Sim? He never proved he was more than a 15-goal scorer so you can not expect goals from him. His contract can not be more than $1mil. He is being recalled to be released?! Good luck to you, Jon!
