Forecheck, backcheck, aircheck

The Islanders have a new radio deal, and I was at least pleased to get in the car today in Milford and find good reception on WHLI (AM) 1100. That’s their new afternoon flagship; afternoon, I presume, because Cleveland’s 1100-AM WTAM is a clear channel. (So WHLI has to turn down — or off — at night.) Much more problematic: The nighttime flagship, WMJC (FM) 94.3, has no chance here because of WYBC-FM on the same frequency; your mileage may vary, and please let us know if it does.

(Actually, I was most pleased to tune into WHLI and find them playing “Volare.” But that’s just me.)

Lindsay Kramer has stuff on Shane Willis and Jeff Hamilton in his NHL.com column. Old buddy Mark Lee goes to Naples. (Florida, not Italy.)

I know I’m getting old, because all the guys getting named assistant coaches or becoming pro scouts are guys I watched play for years. Growing up, I told a friend how I knew when I’d be old: All the guys who were in the Majors in 1984 would be gone. I think that era passed with Julio Franco…

And finally… Pssst! Wanna buy a foul pole?
