Remembering: Sept. 7 notes

It’s Sept. 7, which used to mean the Blogiversary, but now memorializes tragedy. It’s five years since the plane carrying Lokomotiv Yaroslavl went down on takeoff, ultimately killing all but one person aboard. A sad day, always, and as the tweet says, literally a dark day in the KHL. (And this got me almost as hard tonight as it did five years ago tonight.)

From a couple of days ago: Slovenia, Norway and Germany qualified for the Olympics. Still to be determined if those countries’ (or any countries’) NHLers will be there.

Manny Malhotra will be Vancouver’s development coach.

RIP, Jerry Heller, Phyllis Schlafly and Cary Blanchard.

And RIP, Michael Bodnar, who our friend Bill remembers from the top of Section 114 at the Arena: “always a smile and happy to see you.” Condolences to his friends and family.
