No relief: Providence pregame

It’s been a tough little stretch for Stephon Williams lately; four of his past seven appearances have come in relief, and in two of those four, he’s been saddled with a loss. If you count the time earlier this year when he came back into a game he started (which we probably shouldn’t), he has tied Kenny Reiter’s team record of eight relief appearances as a Sound Tigers goalie. (He’s 2-2 in relief, which is more decisions than anyone else; Freddy Cloutier also has two losses, while Poor Joel Martin was 0-2-1.)

These stats are relatively meaningless today, because Williams gets his first start of January at the Dunk to close the three-in-three. Josh Ho-Sang is back in, as are Ross Johnston and Jon Landry; Loic Leduc, Colin Markison and, apparently, Kellen Jones are out. Numbers, Brent Thompson said.

On the other side is Anton Khudobin, who’s coming off back-to-back shutouts and gave up one goal in the game before those.
