Them's the bounces

Rumors circulating that Trevor Gillies is going to Russia; got no confirmation here at the moment. He does pop up on Vityaz Chekhov’s Web site: hanging with Jeremy Yablonski for a documentary on the team.

In Toronto, the Admirals are one win away. Mike Kostka dumped the puck hard into the corner, off the glass. Ben Scrivens went behind the net to play it. It caromed off a stanchion, along the goal line and into the net 9:09 into overtime, the only goal of the evening. Norfolk leads 3-0 and can finish things Saturday afternoon, or Sunday failing that. “If that goal did not have destiny written all over it,” Pete Michaud said, “I don’t know what could.” There’s video. Edit: Speaking of “them’s the bounces,” as has been noted on Twitter by the likes of Mirtle and Greg Wyshynski, it appears that both Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Brandon Segal were offside when Kostka dumped the puck in. Labrie appears to go for a change (and loses the plus to Ondrej Palat in the process) and, who knows, may not even be technically onside when the puck goes in; Segal has tagged up (and Trevor Smith appears to have been onside in the first place), but in theory, with no one else touching the puck before it goes in, that probably shouldn’t count. That play becomes doubly oddball. Wow.

Our Bill Paxton on goalie Alex Vazzano of Trumbull, who’s transferring from Vermont to Sacred Heart.

And an interesting post on Nail Yakupov and what it means to be “Russian.” (H/T: James Mirtle)
