Hats off to Molly. She’s doing great things. But while it’s heartbreaking that she was diagnosed with colon cancer at such a young age, it’s important to remember that the risk of getting colon cancer increases significantly after the age 50. The Eastern Division of the American Cancer Society has a great new Web site that does a great job at encouraging people to get screened (you can even check out a clip of a polyp being removed!) – http://www.cancer.org/colonfab50.

Names aside, we’re based in Bridgeport, so BPT is our backyard and thus our bread and butter. Getting up to a Danbury game? I have talked about it a few times (“Road to hell: paving ahead”) but never gotten it done. Timing is often an issue, both in scheduling conflicts (covering the BST is the job) and in free-time conflicts (I love hockey, but I kinda like my family and friends, too). Got up there last year for a playoff feature, which was at least a start.

Anthony, my sympathies: My family’s 1-1 against the disease. And it sounds like you’re thinking the way I’m thinking about this.

Oh yeah: And some of you guys are _way_ too kind.

since they are a harbor yawn neighbor? not really sure of the correct answer

Why wouldnt he cover the Trashers. Last I checked it was the Connecticut Post not the Bridgeport Post.

mike is truly the best hockey writer in the area. Being a die hard New Haven fan it’s nice to talk to him about former players, etc. I’m sure he would maybe like to do a story on Danbury, but I don’t think it would make th CT Post. Maybe he can check out a game there in March and report on it here? Oh well. Go Tigers. Go Trashers. LETS GO HAWKS forever!

  6. Puckie14 says:

Mike Fornabaio is a friend of New Haven hockey and of Section 14. I think Mike does a fantastic job covering hockey for the Post and we certainly miss his coverage of the Beast.

Mike, I echo what Anthony said, which is we’d love to see you at the DIA in Section 102. MANY of the old New Haven fans now attend Danbury Trasher games and sit in the “new” Jungle, Section 102. New Haven hockey and the Coliseum may be gone, but its spirit lives on Section 102 and the Danbury Ice Arena.

    LET’S GO TRASHERS!!!!

Trashers Messageboard where this is being discussed.

  8. Anthony says:

Thanks for the question Mike, I like your work and wish you would give more coverage to the Trashers as the DIA is the place to be on hockey night for former New Haven fans and fans who enjoy old school hockey.

As far as the “stunt” I personally do not like it. I think it would be very nice to have the women suit up with the team, participate in practice, and even maybe sit on the bench. But to let her take the ice during a game is where this “stunt” loses me. As someone who has lost a very close family member to colon cancer, I am all for the battle against this dreaded disease. However I dont think the league should mix charity with the integrity of the game on the ice.

Mr. Fornabaio we would love to see you at the DIA for some section 14/102 hockey action. Take a night away from the Arena at Harbor Yawn and write a nice story on the Trashers.

  9. Fornabaio says:

(OK, I can’t resist jumping in on this one…)

Anthony (and any other Trashers fans), for all you guys have done to promote this team, to make the DIA “hell” for opponents, to foster the idea of “old school hockey” (and to keep the memory of the ‘Hawks alive, which is my favorite part)… How do _you guys_ feel about this self-avowed “stunt”? I know it’s coming from the league, but still…

  10. Joe says:

Just checked for a ticket in section 102 for this Saturday in Danbury. SOLD OUT, I guess many people are enjoying the 102 antics and the Danbury Trashers. By the way, dont get it twisted its Trashers NOT Thrashers.

    LETS GO DANBURY!

  11. Anthony says:

Wow Mike sounds like you like old school hockey…..NOT! Stop whining and enjoy your time in the “family atmosphere” that is Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yawn….the hardcore hockey fans will enjoy old school hockey in Danbury.

  12. Lori says:

No one is hurt. Cloutier was called up to the Islanders to “practice” with the team until DiPietro returns. Kind of hard to run practice with only one goalie.

  13. gjvancouver2010 says:

what goalie is hurt now? Cody is back!!!

Can’t pay me enough money in the world to go to a Danbury Thrashers game in Danbury (made on the road yes). Nothing against the woman trying to play for every team in the UHL, but I’m sorry, the people in Section 102 are rude and obnoxious and I don’t like the owner and wouldn’t give them my hard earned money. Danbury is not a family oriented atmosphere and I have heard many stories good and bad. Nothing against the Bridgeport fans who do go to the games there on a regular basis but it’s just not for me.

  15. Mike says:

A woman in Danbury…. uh oh, Section 102 is going to have a field day… that is if they’re all as moronic as they’re claimed to be!

  16. gj06 says:

i wish i can start my own topics. sorry

Dennis Bonvies 14 penalty minutes at Providence on Sunday give him 3,969 for his AHL career, more PIM in any professional league than anyone else. Dave Tiger Williams compiled 3,966 minutes in penalties over 14 NHL seasons.

Ben Guite picked up a goal and two assists on Sunday, his third three-point game of the season.

2nd one was for OUR leader M.Forn

Hey Mike, nice job with the site. It’s good to see the Post gave you this little forum to sound off. By the way, I dig the pun.

    Keep rocking.
