It was an odd situation so you can’t blame the other Islanders on the ice for not going at Ponikarovsky. First of all, it wasn’t an intentional hit. Bailey was halfway down so the hit ended up having more impact then expected. The other factor was that Ponikarovsky ended up on his knees after the hit so anyone who went after him would have had to do something worse then the original hit to get him. The linesmen were right there and then Timms was on the ice to treat Bailey. By that time Ponikarovsky was heading to the locker room. As for retaliation on another player, at that point in the game it really wouldn’t be the right reaction.
No Bailey for us. Out 4-6 weeks with facial fracture after that cheap hit last night. No one stood up for him either
