Special day: Wednesday notes (update: Gionta down)

Edit, 1:37: The Islanders sent Stephen Gionta down, which adds a veteran to the mix.

Special-teams practice today, some shifts in personnel. We’ll see if they stick, but it included Chris Bourque in a regular role, so that could be a good sign. Brent Thompson cautioned that it’s still early in the week, day-to-day, check in with everybody, got another day of practice, etc. “End of the day, everybody’s got to be ready to go, and whatever opportunity they get, they take advantage of.”

UConn’s Ruslan Iskhakov, the Islanders’ second-round draft pick this past summer, took this hit last night at Quinnipiac and was taken off on a stretcher. The Huskies say he is doing well.

Tip of cap to Caroll Spinney.

And RIP, Wayne Krenchicki.
