Four adds and a heck of a move: Friday notes

Figured I’d hang back from blogging about the Islanders’ kiddie camp roster, in part because I wondered if I might get down there, in part because it has been a crazy high school football week. But it never happened, and now there’s news from it: Four signings, including the return of Yanick Turcotte (who’s there) and Jeff Kubiak (who’s not). They also added defenseman Justin Murray, a defenseman who played in Saginaw with a couple of the Big Club’s draft picks, and forward Erik Brown, who’s been a highly regarded player at RIT the past four years.

Evan Buitenhuis is also in Isles camp, though no word if he’s re-upped.

(There’s also Trevor Smith, who got 16 years younger and became a North Carolina native since last we saw him, unless it’s a different Trevor Smith, maybe.)

Meanwhile, BITSY FRITZY. If I used emojis, I’d have a couple. Congrats to the whole family.

Elsewhere, it was kind of interesting this afternoon to get out of the sun and see that Mike Vellucci and the Hurricanes had agreed to part ways. Wonder where Vellucci might be WHAAAAT (he’s the new head coach in Wilkes-Barre after Clark Donatelli departed).

TEAM Old New
HFD Keith McCambridge (4/16)  —
CLE John Madden (5/29)  Mike Eaves (6/18)
SD Dallas Eakins (ANA, 6/17)  —
CHA Mike Vellucci (6/28)  —
WBS Clark Donatelli (6/28)  Mike Vellucci (6/28)

Wild.

That totally buries the news in Wilkes-Barre that Roger Haggerty is a Fairfield County Sports Hall of Famer.

CapFriendly compiled a list of over 100 players who didn’t get a qualifying offer, becoming unrestricted free agents when the bell rings Monday.

As a few people have been reporting, Palm Springs, Calif., looks like Seattle’s AHL affiliate.

Tip of cap to Joe Morrell.

And RIP, Dave Bartholomew, Alan Brinkley, Bob Sudyk and Judith Krantz.
