Pereira’s debut

Bright side on the other side: Mike Pereira, who was thinking about coming home for the weekend this morning when he got a call: Wanna come to Worcester? He got to make his pro debut with family and friends around.

“I just tried to tell myself to be confident with the puck,” West Haven’s Pereira said. “Early on, I just wanted to use my speed. … It’s a ‘play for tomorrow’ type of deal. I want to show my worth.”

He did that, getting in position for a couple of shots on net in the first period, the second of them driving around Aaron Ness from the right side and getting a shot away.

“That kind of loosened me up a bit,” Pereira said. “(I saw) those plays still work here. It comes down to being confident.”

A third shot came in the third period on the rush after an icing.

Pereira said a few teams had been in contact with him, but the Sharks were one that had been in touch the whole season.

“When they called, it was a split-second decision,” Pereira said. No deal for next year yet, but he’s hopeful.
