The Calder Cup Final is set: Grand Rapids will face Syracuse, just like they met in 2013, with the Cup on the line. The Crunch finished off Providence 3-1 at home. The Bruins (who started Malcolm Subban after Zane McIntyre’s late struggles) tied it in the second, but Cory Conacher broke the tie with 5:06 left and got an empty-netter in the last minute. Conacher now leads the AHL in playoff scoring at 9-11-20 in 16 games. In the Bruins series, he scored five goals and six assists in five games, and that’s despite getting blanked on five shots in the Crunch’s Game 2 overtime loss.
Grand Rapids eliminated San Jose behind Jared Coreau’s 39 saves and two goals for Matt Lorito. (Alex Gallant got in for the first time this postseason for the Barracuda.) The Griffins will host Games 1, 2, and if necessary 6 and 7, beginning Friday and running possibly until June 14.
