Couple of midweek notes

on
Sean Backman sticks with the Kings’ farm club, now in Ontario, on an AHL deal again. Mike Pereira to Reading. Justin Johnson reportedly to the Toronto Marlies. (Thanks, Ray) The Amerks have a new coach, or as Kevin Oklobzija says, an old coach: Randy Cunneyworth. TEAM Old New SD-a Jarrod Skalde (4/21)  Dallas Eakins (6/26)  […] [Read More]

They’re all coaching now: Friday notes

on
An Adirondack-Manchester ECHL game might be worth a trip this year just for the Sound Tigers nostalgia. The Adirondack Thunder named Cail MacLean head coach Thursday. MacLean, you may remember from the 2003-04 team; Manchester recently named 2004-05 Bridgeport defenseman Rich Seeley head coach. Trumbull’s Alex Vazzano said he’s signed with Greenville, hoping for an […] [Read More]

NWHL schedule/Kevin comes back: Tuesday notes

on
The National Women’s Hockey League released its schedule, beginning with New York at Connecticut at Chelsea Piers in Stamford on Oct. 11. Unfortunately U.S. star Amanda Kessel won’t play her senior year at Minnesota. Concussions. Darn it. Neat note from Victor Fernandes: Kevin Putzig is leaving Erie to join the Islanders. Appears that Trumbull’s own […] [Read More]

Islanders sign Leblanc

on
The Islanders announced they’ve signed Louis Leblanc to a two-way contract. Leblanc was a first-round pick of Montreal’s, went to Harvard for a year, went to play junior in Montreal and has four years of pro hockey. He spent last year with Norfolk, playing center and right wing against Bridgeport. Edit, 12:50: Leblanc has 284 […] [Read More]

Here and gone: Coupla Wednesday notes

on
The Islanders announced yesterday that Mike Halmo and Kevin Czuczman accepted their qualifying offers, so they’re under contract for next year. QOs were scheduled to expire Wednesday for Kevin Poulin and Brock Nelson, though conceivably they could’ve been extended (haven’t heard anything for sure). What’s that mean? Not much, directly. They’re still restricted free agents. […] [Read More]

Rule changes, calculations, Souza, DiBo?: Friday notes

on
The AHL released its rules changes and playoff format from this week’s Board of Governors meeting. It’s yet another chance for people to get worked up over the California teams’ playing 68 games as opposed to everyone else’s 76. Logically, to account for the imbalance, the playoffs in the Pacific Division — and in the […] [Read More]

Wednesday bits Thursday

on
A few quick links after the Atlantic League all-star game (thanks for tolerating me on Twitter): Bobby Robins has decided to retire, though he tells Mark Divver he’s feeling back-to-normal after his concussion early last season. May he be well. After Mike Souza departed, UConn went to the same era of the AHL for a […] [Read More]
