Zach Boychuk scored on a wraparound with 6:48 remaining after John Curry gave up the puck, and Albany finished off a sweep of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 5-3 win at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Rats, in perhaps their final AHL season, win their first playoff series since 1998. The first three games were one-goal contests, and the last was until an empty-net goal in the final seconds.
How much Albany fans will get to enjoy the second round is a question, with the circus coming to town in early May. The TU’s Pete Dougherty promised more on the blog if Albany finished it up tonight.
