Alternate route to the Cup

In a year of dealing with I-84, I hadn’t noticed this: On 84 westbound, when you get to I-691, there’s a sign that says it’s an alternate route to I-91. Seriously? You mean an alternate from when you passed I-91 a half-hour ago? Or an alt from when you passed Route 72, 10 minutes ago, or Route 9, 15 minutes ago? Or an alternate from there, and in which case, what’s your main line, down Route 8 to 67 to 15 and back up to Meriden? Actually, at that point, if you’re looking for I-91 north of Hartford, your main line is probably “Get off at Exit 29 and get back on I-84 eastbound“…

(Cranky: Long night of volleyball. Logistical… “nightmare” is too strong, but annoyance, maybe. Thanks to the Barnes and Noble, found after 15 minutes of driving, for a brief wireless connection. Annoyance also alleviated by Mohawk misidentification.)

Anyway. Where were we? Oh, yeah, Austin. Hey, guess who goes home with a lead? Francois Bouchard ties it in the second period, and Alexandre Giroux wins it 13:28 into overtime for a 3-2 series lead for Hershey. Injured goalie Brent Krahn dressed as the backup to Matt Climie, who made 41 saves; Michal Neuvirth made 35.

About 2,000 people showed up to Giant Center to watch it on closed-circuit TV. As noted by Tim Leone — there instead of in Cedar Park because of his son’s high-school graduation — that’s “larger than some live AHL playoff games this year.” The barn will be sold out for Monday’s Game 6, and the Cup will be in the house.

More from the jury that acquitted Bobby Hughes. “It’s a ‘he said-she said’ without the ‘she said,'” one juror told the Times Union.

Pete Dougherty reports that the new Albany Devils will play only 36 home games: The other four will be in Atlantic City. Road trip.

And RIP, Bobby Kromm.
