The other (another?) Christmas Eve

Lots of people set free in the morning. Those on the other end of the spectrum are coming to the Island for kiddie camp next week. Kevin Poulin apparently joins Calvin de Haan and Mark Katic on the injured list. Haley, Joensuu and Rechlicz are the notable entry-level guys missing, but I don’t remember everybody showing up in past years, so don’t know if it’s worth reading anything into that. Edit: Word is Jesse’s getting married, while the other two guys were given a rest; they’ve done this before.

But, yeah, free agency gets going Thursday. We’ll post the Bridgeport lists in the morning sometime. Jonathan did up his usual excellent AHL free agents ranking. Working on another story, but we’ll keep an eye on what’s going on and try to poke the nose in when we can.

Congratulations to Pete Dougherty of Albany’s Times Union on the print-side Ellery Award.

A neat Yann Danis story.

Found this by accident, a vinyl rip of the B-side of one of my favorite singles. Heard it on CD, obviously, a couple of different CDs. Vinyl… transcendent. (Your mileage surely may vary.)

Re-found this by accident. Sure I’ve linked to it before. Might as well put it back out there, since the site of the World Cup kind of makes it timely: The unbelievable story of Solomon Linda and the “Zulu hunting chant” that’s now an inescapable part of Western music. (There are some gratuitous naughty words in the story, but skip over them.)

And RIP, belatedly, Robert Byrd.
