RIP, Wade Belak

Reports from Canada are that Wade Belak, 35, has died in Toronto. He played in 549 games for five NHL teams, including 15 for the Predators last year.

Belak is the older brother of Graham Belak, who played for the Sound Tigers in at least part of the team’s first four seasons.

On an entirely different level of sadness, Marc Savard won’t play this year, or perhaps again, Peter Chiarelli tells the Globe. James Mirtle in the other Globe (and Mail) runs down just some of the other guys whose careers have ended on concussions.

After all that, though, take a look at this Geno Malkin story that Dmitry Chesnokov tweeted.
