Pelech called up

At this time last year, Adam Pelech was still in and out of the lineup in his rookie season, a couple of months away from becoming that mainstay PK guy, a fixture on Scott Mayfield’s left. This morning, he’s in the NHL: The Islanders announced they’ve called him up. He could make his NHL debut tomorrow night out in San Jose. The trip also takes them to L.A. and Anaheim by Friday.

For the non-daily readers, (a) here’s a Pelech feature from rookie camp and a Pelech-Mayfield preseason bit, and they have become more assertive offensively this season, including Pelech’s pass yesterday to set up Jesse Graham’s game-winning one-timer; (2) hey, hi, swing by more often (this might help).

For about 45 minutes, that left Bridgeport with just one left-handed defenseman out of six*, but as promised, Matt Finn was called back up to the Sound Tigers from Missouri. He didn’t play last night but scored a goal Saturday night in a 1-0 win.

*-I spent part of those 45 minutes trying to figure out how to phrase a “for the sake of Branislav Mezei” joke, but it’s worthless now.
