A familiar face said hi at media day today. Late addition to camp, Jon Landry will be with the Sound Tigers on a tryout when they open camp for real tomorrow. Also among the group will be veteran defenseman Nick Petrecki.
“They’ll give a veteran flair,” Brent Thompson said. “They’re leaders. They’ll help the young guys, hopefully, and we’ll go from there. At the end of the day, we’re going to take the best defensemen.”
Maybe the other most interesting tryout name was Eric Hartzell’s, the former Quinnipiac goalie, Hobey Baker finalist as a senior. Hartzell has an ECHL contract with Fort Wayne.
Eamon McAdam, Connor Jones and Patrick Cullity were sent down from the Islanders and were in town as well. A few players were still trickling in.
They changed plan because the ice at Webster Bank Arena will be available tomorrow: Monday’s practice won’t be open to the public. But they’ll be at Wonderland at 10 daily through Saturday, and those will be open.
Here’s the camp roster, with AHL-contract players in italics and tryouts linked to their hockeydb.com pages:
Rocco Carzo (Missouri contract)
Dan Correale (Missouri contract)
Kevin Morris (out of Miami (Ohio), son of former Manchester coach Mark Morris)
Darren Nowick (Missouri contract)
Shawn Pauly (Missouri contract out of UConn)
Travis St. Denis
Derik Johnson (Reading (ECHL), son of NHL coach/former D Jim Johnson)
Jon Landry (with whom you may be familiar, played for Utica last year)
Samuel Noreau (Missouri contract, former Rangers property)
Nick Petrecki (Veteran D you probably best remember from Worcester)
Also under AHL contract, up with the Islanders on tryouts: F Tanner Fritz, F Colin Markison
