Gionta signs with Bridgeport: Wednesday notes

Bridgeport announced the signing of Stephen Gionta this afternoon. The veteran forward was in camp with (and injured with) the parent Islanders; not sure of his health status at the moment, but he’s got a deal here. He’s a full AHL veteran, but that doesn’t matter for Bridgeport right now (Kearns, Ben Holmstrom, Landry). He’d been an NHLer since the end of the last lockout.

Darren Nowick has apparently been let go from his tryout, so Bridgeport as of now is back to 16-11-2 in camp. And we’ve been told of a slew of number changes, too.

The Islanders announced this afternoon that they’ve agreed to terms with Mitchell Vande Sompel on an entry-level deal. He was their third-rounder in 2015, a round ahead of Parker Wotherspoon, who had a good ATO last year and signed his ELC in the spring.

And RIP, Matti Hagman.
