A bit of good injury news from today’s practice: Josh Winquist was on the top line with a reunited Bracken Kearns and Steve Bernier, which sure looks like he’s in. Tanner Fritz took the whole practice, and though he didn’t appear to be lined up as one of the top 12, Brent Thompson said he’d like to have Fritz in tomorrow at Hartford if the trainers say “go” and he feels OK.
In addition, Ryan Pulock took part of the practice. Definitely out tomorrow, Thompson said, but the team’s then off for five days, so they’ll see what happens from there.
Loic Leduc took either a puck or a stick to the chin while working on the PK near the end of practice; was cut and needed a little help up, but he was goofing with teammates within minutes, so hopefully OK
No firm update yet on Christopher Gibson. (That means it still doesn’t sound good.)
Devon Toews said he got his all-star news from Thompson yesterday morning, “in the middle of dealing with Zack (Yannes’) workout,” he said with a laugh. “It was nice to hear. … I think it’ll be a fun experience. There are a lot of guys on the team who could obviously go. It’s a credit to our team. They’re the reason I’ve been having a good year thus far. The coaches, the training staff, They’re a big part of this.”
Hartford plays tonight at home against Lehigh Valley, and it’ll do so with Pavel Buchnevich in the lineup; the Russian rookie stood out early but has been out since Nov. 12 with a back injury. This’ll be the second time in a week Bridgeport meets an opponent that played the night before while it had the night off. Didn’t work so well in Albany, but the Sound Tigers did close that game strong.
And an update on Craig Cunningham from Craig Custance.
