The Islanders announced this afternoon that they’ve re-signed Stephen Gionta; Arthur Staple has terms, which puts Gionta into that solidly paid AHL-veteran range, the type Bridgeport hadn’t landed yet this summer up front. Are they done? Probably not. Depth is good, and as we well know, you never know when it’ll vanish.
A few other notes from the morning and early afternoon: Milford’s Mark Naclerio signed with Reading (ECHL); he’d played last year on an AHL deal with Providence but had injuries short-circuit his season. The NWHL schedule is out; remember, the Connecticut Whale moved back to Stamford, playing now at Terry Conners. Second last-decade Sound Tigers camper in the news in a week: ex-Yalie Alex Westlund joins the Bears as a goalie coach.
And RIP, Dan McKinnon and Barbara Cook.
