Optional goalie: Wednesday notes

Reasonably well-attended optional this morning at Wonderland. The three non-long-term injured were on the ice, though Scott Eansor went off before a spirited little series of cross-ice three-on-three games. While Eamon McAdam got water between games, Andre Benoit (feeling better) stepped into the crease, gave the pipes a whack, looked every bit Patrick Roy in there.

Presumably a full squad tomorrow before they head out to Wilkes-Barre.

There will be no Kieffer Bellows sighting: Portland won Game 7 last night, and he scored the game-winner.

Wednesday Scoreboard Watching: Lehigh Valley at Charlotte; Springfield at Belleville. Charlotte can cut its magic number to two. Bridgeport’s tragic number remains four one way or the other, because that’s what it is to Providence. It may be easier at this point for Bridgeport to catch the Bruins. Same schedule, unlike Charlotte’s hole next Saturday when it’ll be waiting in Bridgeport for the Sound Tigers to get home from Hershey. The tiebreaker situation is a lot better for Bridgeport against the B’s than against Charlotte… that is, in situations where it would matter, which require making up nine points in six games. The Checkers and Bruins do play one more time, too, complicating matters for Bridgeport.

Anyway. Math is hard, hell is other people, games in November count just as much as etc. etc. etc.

Worcester’s Mitch Gillam and onetime Sound Tigers forward Justin Danforth were named to the ECHL all-rookie team. The AHL version comes out at 3.

Good wishes to Blair Riley, who (while insisting he’s not retiring) is interning as an agent. This is a lot of former Sound Tigers in one place.

Speaking of former Sound Tigers, Arthur Staple says Ryan Pulock is going to Worlds.
