Lou Lamoriello, president of hockey operations, became official this morning.
Curtis McKenzie did it again: An overtime goal, and Texas has Jeremy Colliton’s Rockford team in a 3-0 hole. McKenzie is the 12th AHLer to score two overtime goals in a playoff series, and he’s the sixth to do it in back-to-back games; kinda remarkably, the past five have all done it in back-to-back games after only one of the first seven did. (Jim Wiemer, against New Haven, in 1983.) See-saw game in Rockford; the Stars came back to take a third-period lead, then lost it in the last minute. They’ll have a chance to take the series Thursday.
The league points out that this is the first time three different teams have won seven in a row in the same playoffs.
Game 3 in Allentown tomorrow.
St. John’s ECHL team has a name: The Newfoundland Growlers. Pretty cool. In their Western Conference, Game 7 tomorrow night.
And: One down.
