Army at Worcester: Friday notes

Derek Army joins the family business, retiring as a player to join Worcester as an assistant coach. Son of Tim, as noted in there, and grandson of Tom, chief of off-ice officials in Providence and a Bridgeport native. We had some fun with that when Derek and the Friars played their last NCAA Regional here.

You say Garrett Rank missed the cut; I’m like 83-75–158, T-136 after playing his way into one of the two biggest tournaments in the world… not bad. (Joe Posnanski kinda beat me to it, but: If you took everyone who missed the cut at Shinnecock and told them, “come on up to Cromwell, we’ll all play 18 Sunday and give the winner a few bucks and the rest to charity, since the GHO* starts Monday anyway, what say?” Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth are among those coming anyway, so maybe they would. See who else shows up. You’d think about going, right? (It won’t happen, obviously, but… right?))

It’s that time of year: Max Domi to Montreal for Alex Galchenyuk.

And RIP, Sonia Scurfield, Larry Hendrickson and Keith Fahnhorst.
