RIP, Charles Wang

Newsday reports this morning the death of Charles Wang, who as Islanders owner added the Sound Tigers to his stable in July 2004, keeping the team in Bridgeport.

Under his ownership, the team also took over operating Webster Bank Arena in 2011. He was a director and, with wife Nancy Li, part-owner of NeuLion, which streamed AHL games until this season and I think still runs the AHL’s video-replay system.

Wang sold the majority stake in the teams to Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky and took steps back in recent years but is, to this writing, third on the Sound Tigers’ front-office page, co-owner and alternate governor.
