Holmstrom to Norfolk

Only two men have served as captain in every game they played for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Mark Wotton did it for 368 games.

Ben Holmstrom, coincidentally, did it for 268.

The captain’s departure is official: Norfolk announced it has signed Holmstrom for 2019-20, reuniting the Holmstrom brothers.

Sort of ends the era, in a way. That 2015-16 group kind of re-established things after a couple of rough years here, got them back to the playoffs. There are a few guys left from that playoff group, though they were mostly younger guys, Parker Wotherspoon, Kyle Burroughs, Tanner Fritz. Connor Jones and Holmstrom both showed up that year and went on to play the eighth- and fifth-most games in team history, respectively. They’ve now both departed in the same summer as Bracken Kearns retires.

Time goes by, especially in this league, but still.

….

Speaking of retirements, Mike McKenna made his official. And speaking of whom, I’m pretty sure I forgot to link you McKenna’s podcast with Peter Mannino from last week. Several fantastic stories in there, a few of them from here.
