Bernier out: Thursday notes

Prepped a whole story about how, through their winning streak, the Sound Tigers had such stability, no transactions, no injuries aside from Christopher Gibson’s long-term absence…

And then this morning, Kellen Jones and Colin Markison are taking turns in Steve Bernier’s spot at Wonderland. Brent Thompson said Bernier finished Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury, but Bernier was getting that injury evaluated Thursday. Thompson expects him to miss the weekend.

It really has been a ridiculous run of relative quiet, especially for a franchise that lived through two seasons of incredible turnover in just the past seven years (2013-14 finished with 65 players to go with 2010-11’s 62).

Tweeted that things otherwise looked much as they did before the break; the couple of tweaks include that, with Kellen Jones moved up, Ross Johnston was back with the Holmstroms. Eric Boulton skated as a fourth man on that line. Travis St. Denis was again with Connor Jones and Tanner Fritz.

Carter Verhaeghe has a 12-game scoring streak in Missouri. He has played 13 ECHL games. He has 27 points (11-16). Respectable. The ECHL named him Player of the Week for last week.

Weekend-opponent transactions: Binghamton tried to get Patrick Mullen back from Europe; Rochester claimed him off AHL waivers. Amerks captain Cal O’Reilly is reportedly on NHL waivers. Florida assigned Jared McCann and Dylan McIlrath to the Falcons Thunderbirds. (I did that one preemptively. Maybe that’ll ward off the real ones on Saturday and Tuesday.)

The Devils’ move to Binghamton became official Tuesday as expected.

All our best to our bud Tom Liodice.

And RIP, Frank Pellegrino.
